My Instructional Design Philosophy

Start With the Need

At the heart of my work is a simple question:

What does the learner need to do differently after this experience?

Before I think about slides, narration, interactions, or authoring tools, I want to understand the need behind the learning.

What is getting in the way?

What does success look like?

What does the learner need to know, do, or feel confident doing?

Those questions help determine the right solution. Sometimes that solution is an eLearning course. Sometimes it is a facilitator-led experience, curriculum, job aid, workbook, onboarding program, learning roadmap, or a combination of approaches.

My Approach

I believe great learning experiences sit at the intersection of strategy, structure, and humanity.

Effective instructional design is more than making information engaging. It requires understanding the audience, organizing content intentionally, choosing the right learning approach, collaborating with subject matter experts, and creating experiences that people can actually use.

I draw from established instructional design models and adult learning principles, but I adapt my process to the needs of the project rather than forcing every solution into the same framework.

I also believe the details matter. Technical accuracy, accessibility, visual consistency, content organization, version control, and thoughtful project management all contribute to whether a learning solution works beyond the moment it is delivered.

I enjoy building the curriculum, resources, processes, and supporting structures that make learning programs work in the real world.

I bring the same intentionality to live and virtual learning that I bring to digital experiences.

Creativity
I use storytelling, visuals, interaction, and meaningful practice to make learning memorable and useful.

Beyond the Work

I’m a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and a Norfolk State University alumna. I’m also the Co-Founder of Curriculum Agents, where my work continues to explore the intersection of education, learning, family, and community.

Curiosity has always been part of how I work. I enjoy learning something new, asking better questions, finding the story inside the information, and figuring out how to make an idea easier for someone else to understand.

That curiosity is what keeps me designing.
